Allison White has received The Deborah Hutton Award for running a successful local Cancer Support Group and for fundraising for Macmillan. She was presented the award by Giles Long MBE, Paralympic Gold Medallist and a member of the Macmillan Panel at a ceremony in Manchester.
As many know Newtonian Allison was diagnosed with a rare form of Leukaemia in 2009 and since then still experiences a number of other related health issues.
She attends 12 hospitals in the North East but Allison said she wants no one to face cancer alone as there is so much help available, but the information is not getting passed on and many cancer sufferers are struggling.
With the support of a committee she runs a local group. Allison said it’s not a doom and gloom gathering and encourages anyone that is frightened to come on their own to either contact her or bring a friend along.
Allison arranges day trips for the group giving members the invaluable opportunity to get to know people in similar situations. Just another way where Allison makes a meaningful difference to the lives of others affected by cancer.
The Great Aycliffe Cancer Support Group meets at Newton Aycliffe Youth & Community Centre on the 1st Thursday of every month 6pm – 7.30pm. For more information contact Allison 0n 07762 258696
