Dear Sir,
St. Francis’ are participating in the ‘Seen and Heard’ project. Seen and Heard is a lottery funded project, who believe in putting the children at the centre of learning and taking their viewpoints to explore history further.
History is often spoken from the viewpoints of adults, and this charity works at putting children and their experiences at the forefront of learning. The project enables children to develop their historical understanding, develop their own independent enquiry and find their voice.
The children will be working in a group alongside Tabitha to explore the local area as the town comes to celebrate its 75th year. After our first meeting, on Tuesday 25th April, the children have come up with many questions.
The questions have been categorised into three themes which are School, Children at Work and How Children Were Cared For.
We are hoping to get lots of personal accounts of the last 75 years in Newton Aycliffe. If you, or anyone you know, grew up in or around Newton Aycliffe have any stories of their childhood, please send them to St. Francis’ Junior School, Scholars Path, DL5 7HB or email to:
stfrancis@durhamlearning.net
It would be great to share with the children how things have changed. We look forward to hopefully hearing from you. Thank you.
