Two weeks ago at the Northern Athletics U17/U15/ U13 Outdoor Championships in Leigh, Manchester Newtonian Adam Ord secured a splendid Silver medal. Adam, 14 – of Durham City Harriers and a Greenfield Community College Student, ran a controlled race in his 800m Final. He made a home straight surge to cross the line second, fulfilling his and coach, George Reid’s, medal hopes. In a solid AAA Grade 1 time, it’s a great way to be winding down the 2017 Track season for Adam.

Following this success, and even before the news had chance to go to press – Adam travelled to Bedford the weekend of 26th August to compete in the England Athletics Under 17 & Under 15 National Championships. He ran confidently in his heat stage of the 800m to achieve a personal best time to reach the Final. Day Two saw Adam among the country’s finest, surpass any expectations.

He ran a tactical, strong race – surging to take on the Northern Champion over the last 200m to cross the line as UK’s No. 2. He took the podium and a Silver Medal  with another new PB – 2.00.15 Adam couldn’t have wished for a better close to the 2017 Track season. He would like to thank Greenfield School for their support along the way and would especially like to thank his coach, and fellow Newtonian, George Reid for going the extra mile and all the hard work he’s put with Adam over the last few months.
