Aycliffe Cancer Support Group held a stall on the 25th November in the Thames Centre and thanks everyone for their support. They raised £286.22 to help cancer patients and their families. As well as monthly meetings members enjoy social outings. The group offers Free Patient Transport for those going through Treatment and provide Respite Breaks for patients and their family.
As a one-off the Group have hired premises in the Town Centre to reach out and help those in our community to get the right help and support after being diagnosed with Cancer. We will be in the shop next to Shoe Zone on Monday 11th & Tuesday 12th December from 10am until 2.30pm.
We meet many patients and their families suffering not only from isolation but from poverty and its coming up to the most stressful period of the year, so we want to make sure they are receiving the right support to get them through this difficult time.
The aim is to not only to raise funds for the group but to signpost patients and their families to the right Health Professionals. Just come along and have a chat to some of our members so they don’t feel like they are on their own.
We will have refreshments including homemade cakes for a small donation. We will have clothing that is in good condition for a small donation as well as a mixture of other things. If you have anything in good condition either Prizes or Clothing please contact Allison on 07762 258696 or Sharon on 07944 187877. Clothing must be clean and ready to put out on the clothes rail.
We also will be aiming to have someone from Welfare Rights available and one of our members will give financial advice as they have had relevant training and if they can’t help we will find someone who will. Details will be available on our Facebook Page.
Also on the day we have a Tombola Stall and will also be showing off our new project providing special hand-made Bags to Cancer Patients going through Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy. The bags contain all the necessary things a patient might need for that appointment, including a bottle of water kindly donated from Northumbria Water, Mints, Cereal Bar, Pen, Puzzle Book, Notebook, Pack of Tissues, Hand Gel and Wipes and will have samples of Tea Bags either Ginger or Peppermint that helps nausea. Come along and thanks to Bryan Haldane Town Centre Manager for all his help and support on setting this up, we need to let our community know that there is help out there and we couldn’t do this without kind and helpful people like Bryan.
