Firstly, I need to make people aware that rescuing our precious hedgehogs is never to be taken lightly, it’s the hardest thing I have ever done and that’s no exaggeration. However, when I have successfully rescued, treated and rehabilitated a poorly hedgehog, the rewards are infinite. It requires 100% commitment and discipline because we, as rehabbers, take these little babies into our homes to provide them with the care they need and deserve, 365 days a year.
We never close, the British Hedgehog Preservation Society will still direct concerned finders to a rescue in their area whatever the time of year. I keep my poorly hedgehogs and hoglets in my home, checking on them during the night if needs be. Weekends, Bank Holidays, Christmas, etc etc, we are open when the vets are closed, which is why we need support from finders and anyone else who loves Britain’s Hedgehogs, after all, they are Gods little creatures.
This rescue keeps running because of the support of people who have donated either money, raffle prizes or kibble. Thank you Amy and Craig for delivering Willow and Arwen, your kind donation of raffle prizes is also appreciated. I also thank these lovely talented ladies, June, Valerie, Teri and Marlene because without them I wouldn’t be able to save as many of these endearing creatures. I have a seriously well equipped medicine cabinet, thank you Angela and staff of Grange Vets. The need for fundraising is very much a part of being a rehabber.
Every little hog I have admitted recently, Skye, Willow, Oscar and Charlotte, are all responding to treatment which is wonderful, poor Charlotte has needed full nursing care but improving now, hopefully.
Please come and see us on Saturday 1st October at the Scout Hall, we will have Sandra of Darlington Rescue with us too, we have a Tombola, Raffle and all sorts of lovely things for sale for Christmas
Please meet Charlotte, she came from Ingleby Barwick Stockton, on the day of the Queen’s Funeral. She is a mere 5 ounces and will be here till spring 2023.
