There are no words I can possibly use effectively to express my thanks to everyone that took the time out to visit myself and Joyce at the Petting Zoo last Saturday. Especially Keith who took the time and trouble to invite me in the first place. Our hedgehogs received some remarkable donations, these donations will be used for medication, food and bedding with some also for the extension that needs to be built. Can I also thank June and Valerie for covering a fundraiser at Avon Court and everyone who made purchases and donations.
On a more serious note we, as rehabbers, are experiencing problems keeping little and big hedgehogs alive even when we receive them in Rescue. What we need is people like Sheila, Angie, Margaret who get in touch as soon as they discover a hedgehog in trouble, whatever its size, out in the day it’s not ok, please save me some grief and contact me as soon as you can. These poor souls nests are being waterlogged, it doesn’t end well for them, that I can be certain of. Also we need three good days of antibiotics into a hedgehog before we see an improvement, some don’t last a day which isn’t long enough.
I am releasing some hedgehogs when the weather improves, not a moment sooner. If you want to help our hedgehogs, purchase a feeding station, most places can help if you google it, the more people who support feed, the better and healthier our hedgehogs get and hopefully their survival rates will also improve.
Thank you.
