Dear Editor,
In response to the writer of last week’s item complaining about the “market” in the Thames Centre, I would like to praise the Manager Matthew, and his family for having the initiative to provide a much needed fruit and veg stall for the residents of Newton Aycliffe.
It is a well used and much appreciated bringing people into the mall. Goodness only knows what the shopkeepers in the town centre have had to endure over the last year where trade levels have still not recovered since the disruption. We lost a greengrocer during all of this and also the one at Neville Parade.
The Thames Centre now has a vibrant little shopping community where you can buy all your fresh goods in one handy place and this can only be a good thing and bring people to this area of the town instead of everyone flocking blindly to Tesco and Aldi.
Whilst I have every sympathy for those people who genuinely need to use a disability scooter and have also had many years of pushing pushchairs the world can’t stop for the minority. If those people using such a mode of transport are simply using the Thames Centre as a thoroughfare and have no intention of purchasing anything from the shops perhaps it would be more convenient for them to go round the outside, a very small diversion?
I was taught three words when I was small and they have served me very well throughout my life, “excuse me please”
Grateful Shopper
