Following their sponsored swim in June which raised a total of £1,800 the swimmers at SD75SC were proud to present two cheques to 2 charities (in addition to their own club) who they supported with their swim.

John Moore Chief Coach completed 2000m in the hour raising £220 but has agreed to up his training as he was overtaken in the number of lengths he did by some of the youngest swimmers in the club. Swimmers completed miles of lengths in their hour in the pool and worked tremendously hard to raise the sponsorship money to support this. Some relatives unaware of just how talented the children were made the mistake of sponsoring them per length, a costly £94 x 3 relatives in one case – well done Tom Robinson and family! The most lengths swum was by Katelyn Craig who managed a massive 186 lengths, 12 lengths short of 3 miles.

£1,200 was split equally and donated to Cancer Research UK and to St. Teresa’s Hospice.

Representatives from both charities who came to the leisure centre on Monday evening expressed just how grateful the charities were for the money raised and how it would be used to benefit the local area in both cases. Both Charities spoke to the swimmers about the work that their organisations did and explained why it was so important for money to be raised to support them.

Everyone at the club is incredibly proud of the hard work of the swimmers and organisers of this event.
