Following the success of a similar event in late 2014, Sugar Hill primary school hosted a summertime event which aimed to help children discover a love of reading. With the help of local author and storyteller, Adam Bushnell, Key Stage 1 gardens at the school were transformed into an outdoor library with children and parents able to sit and read together from a wide variety of books that were made available by the school for the event.
Adam enthralled the children, and also the parents, with his stories of mediaeval heroes and villains. Children enjoyed ice cream, drinks and hot dogs as they listened to Adam’s fascinating storytelling, and joined in at times as Adam asked them to act out various parts from the stories. Everyone present enjoyed the event immensely and Sugar Hill staff would like to thank children and parents, and Adam, for all their support in making the afternoon a success.
