Education at Woodham Academy didn’t stop over the summer holidays. The successful summer school programme designed to aid transition from primary school has been running for over five years now.
This year’s programme ran for two weeks with students taking part in many exciting activities. These included building sellotape body sculptures in Art, designing and manufacturing a pen pot in Design and Technology and building rockets in Science! Afternoons were spent learning new skills in PE, enjoying dodgeball, basketball and swimming in Woodham’s fantastic pool.
Students also got the chance to experience their first ever educational visits with trips to the Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth and The Life Centre in Newcastle. The visits, along with the diverse range of activities on the programme proved to be a major hit with the Department for Education, even showcasing photos from the summer school on its website.
Tracy Tait, Head of Year 7 at Woodham Academy, commented ‘Summer School is a wonderful initiative allowing students the opportunity to engage in fun activities in preparation for their time at Woodham.
It gives students the chance to meet new friends, become familiar with the school and also meet teachers.’
