Over the past two weeks artist Maggie Smith has been working with a group of year 10 Textiles students at Greenfield Community College developing their skills and experimenting with different techniques.
Maggie is an established textile artist, a member of the Embroiderer’s Guild who has worked in higher education and regularly delivers courses on textiles and embroidery, as well as creating her own mixed media pieces.
Her recent exhibition at Greenfield Arts “Lost Stories and Broken Narratives” was a great success, receiving over 200 visitors whilst on display.
During the sessions with the students they have been exploring techniques Maggie demonstrates in her two published books “Get Plastered” and “Get Stuffed,” including mark marking, working with plaster, fabric and colour and transferring images using different methods.
This has been a great opportunity for the students, who have been enthusiastic and interested in the methods Maggie has been showing them. The work they have created will be included in their GCSE portfolios. We would like to say a big thank you to Maggie for this fantastic opportunity for Greenfield to continue its partnerships with local professional artists!
