This week local primary schools and members of the community joined us at Greenfield Arts for a swashbuckling performance of “My Granny’s a Pirate!” The show, based on the popular children’s book by Val McDermid came to Greenfield as part of a current tour across the North East organised by New Writing North.
Pupils and staff from Horndale Infants and Byerly Park Primary School thoroughly enjoyed the fantastic performance, which was filled with music to accompany the engaging story of a Granny who is a pirate with a dog called Jolly Rodger!
The pupils set sail across pirate seas during the performance and sang pirate songs and carried out the actions with great spirit! We were also able to offer the schools the opportunity to take part in workshops before the performance, to learn the songs and create their own pirate gear – which they wore to the performance!
This is the twelfth live performance Greenfield Arts have hosted and provided free of charge to local primary schools and the community this year. We are pleased to be able to provide these opportunities for local schools, partners and the community, sourcing funding and liaising with national tours and festivals, and plan to continue to do so into 2014!
Next is a performance of “H2O” for children aged 2-6 which will take place on Friday 25th October. For more information about all the great opportunities on offer at Greenfield Arts visit www.greenfield-arts.co.uk.
