Over the summer, four Woodham Academy students embarked on an opportunity of a lifetime, they spent 3 weeks on and American summer camp. They stayed at Camp Cody, on the shores of Lake Ossipee, in New Hampshire, USA, where they volunteered their time to help coach young campers from all across America, as well as experiencing some American Culture! Students were asked to apply for the four positions to go to Camp Cody.  They are asked to complete a formal application and attend an interview, and those successful candidates embark on a training programme to teach them new skills and help assist them whilst out in America.
This is the 7th consecutive year that Woodham Academy has sent students over to Camp Cody. The students found themselves immersed in camp life within a few hours of being on site, working with their fellow ‘Counsellors in Training’ and experienced Counsellors to support in the delivery of high quality sports coaching sessions as well as assisting with campers at night time.
Danny Ketch, who led the trip to Camp Cody commented, “Our students have been fantastic at Camp, they have made a great impression on the staff at Cody, their peers and more importantly the children that they helped with. We are very proud of how well they represented the school and themselves.” The travelling group finished their 3 weeks in America with an afternoon in Boston, seeing the sights and squeezing in a bit of last minute shopping! Although it was difficult for students to leave their ‘Cody family’ behind, they all hope to return next summer.
