Year five and six children, at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, visited Rose Lodge Care Home to celebrate National Tell a Fairy Tale Day! They were provided with the opportunity to read, tell and listen to fairy tales from around the world. Firstly, the children introduced themselves to the residents and began to work together to produce a new fairy tale. They used the book ‘You Choose Fairy Tales’ to construct their own version. The children had to consider the elements of a fairy story such as the setting, who the good and bad characters were, what three items they would have to help them, how they would defeat the bad character and how they lived happily ever after. After this, everyone took part in a quiz organised by Rose Lodge to test our fairy tale knowledge. Everyone passed with flying colours! One of the pupils stated, “I really liked talking to the residents at Rose Lodge. They had some good ideas about the characters we could use when creating our own fairy tales. I would like to go back and visit Rose Lodge again.” Mr Hunt, class teacher at St Joseph’s, said, “It was lovely to see the children interacting with the residents and making them smile and laugh. This visit enabled the children to put our Trust virtues, of compassion, confidence and respect, into practice.” The children are already looking forward to returning in the near future.
