Dear Sir,
I feel very offended that Mrs Dorothy Bowman thinks this area is anything like “Shameless” a dramatized “worse case” cross section of society! That is not real, and I hope people in the Silverdale area will stand up for themselves! It is not the most ideal place to live but nowhere near as bad as she made it out to be. The anti-social issues have been increased by government cuts affecting all areas of Newton Aycliffe and I would expect the rest of the country are experiencing the same problems.
Myself and the neighbours either side of me have been victims of some of the criminal damage and anti-social behaviour Mrs Bowman outlines, but I know the police and local authorities are working closely together to identify and deal with the individuals responsible and that’s the key word here – “individuals”. She has branded an entire estate not those “individuals” responsible! There are many good, honest, hard working and lovely people in the Silverdale estate.
My friends, neighbours and I are offended and shamed to have the area we live in bad-mouthed throughout the north, all because a few individuals who cause trouble. I believe Mrs Bowman owes the residents of Silverdale Estate an apology.
G Hardaker, Eskdale Place, Mrs J Hodgson of Silverdale Place. and other disgruntled residents.
