There was a good turnout from the club at the NYSD cross-country meeting at Summerhill, Hartlepool. It was a mild day and the rain kept away, but the damage had already been done by the heavy rain on previous days. This left the course the muddiest it has been for years with runners sliding about all over.
The club had a strong team in the Senior Women’s 4.6k race and finished in 6th position. First home for the club was Michelle Zamir, 18th in 21:40, followed by Michelle Jane, 27th in 22:28 and Cyd Denise, 35th in 23:21. Susan Milburn was next to cross the line, 39th in 23:50 and it was a cross-country debut for Angela Barrett, 60th in 26:59. Julie Spring was next finisher, 77th in 32:32, followed by Susan Clark, 78th in 33:32 and finally Eve Doe in her first cross-country race was 79th in 33:41.
In the Senior Men’s 8.9k race Mark Wade put some distance between him and his fellow team mates finishing 15th in 36:53, followed by Dez Fielden, 37th in 39:33 and Peter Milburn, 50th in 40:49.
In his first cross-country race 17- year- old Shane Doe showed great promise to finish 104th in 48:23, followed by Steve Smith, 107th in 49:48 and Colin Gibson 111th in 51:03. Trevor Needham, reaping the benefits of retirement and in his new 60+ age group finished a respectful 118th in 55:23 and Rob Nicholson, 130th in 60:16 just managed to hold off a fast finishing Dave Thompson, 131st in 60:17. The men’s team finished 7th
In the over 65 men’s 4.6k race, Ray Todd was the only finisher in the O/75 category in 33:40.On the same day some other members of the club travelled down to Leeds for the for the Abbey Dash 10k. This is a very popular race as it is a flat and fast course and is good for PB’s.
