Dear Sir
The Normandy Veterans met for the annual commemoration of the Landings on 6th June at The Bay Horse, Middridge.
They thank the Rotary Club of Newton Aycliffe for their generous sponsorship, which enabled our ‘Vets’ who could not join their comrades in Normandy, to meet together for the last time.
The Rotary Club, on many occasions, have proven to be indispensable in helping our servicemen who have fallen on bad times and we are eternally grateful for their assistance. The President of the Rotary Club, Geoff Batchelor, was present and said how honoured the club was to sponsor the lunch.
The Bay Horse at Middridge laid on a mouth-wateringly,  delicious ‘nonagenarian’ meal, 1940’s music and tasteful decorations.
Crumblicious of Ferryhill  designed and made the 70th Anniversary Cake, which was truly delicious. Liz Wilson and Anne Carbin  of SSAFA (Sedgefield Division) provided the Haversack rations to take away.
Vicky Peterson, of Wear Valley and Teesdale SSAFA Division, organised the event which was enjoyed by all.
I would be most grateful if you could  also remind your readers, that ssafa exists to assist both serving and ex- serving members and their dependants of the armed forces who have fallen on bad times – please contact us on: Tel: 01325 314043
