NA Women 1 v East Durham Ladies 1.
After a decent performance last time we wanted more of the same this week. First half was an even game with both teams having opportunities to score, Aycliffe were defending well and every time the defence was breached Courtney was there to clean up. Then the first big decision of the game, Amber got to the ball ahead of the last defender and was bearing down on goal only to be brought down outside the box, ref blew for a free kick but no card shown? Then just before half time Lottie slides in the box and catches the player and not the ball, second big decision PENALTY! Courtney stood strong, ball was fired straight down the middle and hit the bar, HT 0-0.
Second half the opposition started the stronger but between the defence and keeper Newton Aycliffe Women FC were looking comfortable, then the pressure told, a speculative ball forward caught the defence on the back foot leaving their striker in behind, 0-1. Aycliffe fired straight back, a spell of constant pressure paid off, a scramble just outside the box and Katie reacted quickest, took a touch, then finished through a crowd of players into the top corner, 1-1. Final 10 minutes saw chances for both teams to win the game but Aycliffe’s keeper, Courtney Wilson, made some fantastic saves to keep Aycliffe in the game, final score 1-1. Very positive from everyone which made the difference, everyone gave 100% against a good technical side that are scoring lots of goals. Well done everyone.
Player of the match today was Courtney, at least 10 saves, all from shots destined for the back of net, top form today and kept Aycliffe in the game. The women compete in the Durham League playing on a Sunday afternoon. They would welcome your support, so why not come along to the OakLeaf on Sunday 24th October, 2.00pm KO v South Moor Ladies.
