Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store were well beaten by 62 runs at home to bogey team Barnard Castle 2nd XI in the NYSD 2nd division. Choosing to bat first, the visitors scored an impressive 207 for 7 in their allotted 50 overs despite some excellent bowling from Jack Slatcher (sponsored by Dean & Tina Greaves), who finished with the excellent figures of 3 for 15 from his 13 over spell and a couple of wickets from captain Luke Telford. In reply, Aycliffe battled hard, but were eventually bowled out for 145 after 48 overs with Joe Haines (29 runs) Darryn Bancroft (22 runs) and Adam Gittins (20 runs) the main contributors.
On Friday 22nd June at Marton CC, Aycliffe 1st team’s terrific run in the Brunton Cup came to an end when Saltburn’s first team beat them in the final by 27 runs. Saltburn made a challenging 141 for 5 in their 20 overs and in reply, good innings from both Jack Slatcher (36 runs) and Adam Gittins (34 runs) were not quite enough as Aycliffe were held to 114 for 8 in their 20 overs. A very young 2nd team put in a decent performance away to promotion favourites Billingham Synthonia 2nd XI, but were still defeated by five wickets in the NYSD 4th division. Batting first Aycliffe were bowled out for 67 after 20 overs with only Dan Weldon (14 runs) and Dan Bowmer (10 runs) reaching double figures with the bat. In reply, career best figures of 4 for 12 from 13 year old Matty Greaves (sponsored by Britannia Fire), in only his third senior game, briefly gave Aycliffe hope, but the home side rallied and reached their winning target after 16 overs.
The u15’s put in a good display, but still lost by seven wickets away at Seaton Carew. Aycliffe scored a respectable 99 for 5 in their 20 overs thanks to a superb career best score of 38 by Kyle Cuthbertson and he was supported well by Harry Wright who scored an unbeaten 23. In reply, the home side reached their victory target after 15 overs despite some good bowling from Leo Mercy who took 2 for 11 from his four overs.
The u15’s had a close win by 19 runs at home to Rockliffe Park. Aycliffe scored 78 for 6 in their 20 overs thanks to an excellent innings from Harry Wright (30 runs) and he was given good support from Will Varley (11 runs) and Matty Greaves (10 runs). In reply good bowling from Iain Robson (3 for 11) helped restrict the visitors to 59 for 7 in their 20 overs.
The u13’s continued their run of good form with their fifth win out of the last seven games, this time with a 22 run home victory against Darlington RA in the NYACC league. Batting first Aycliffe scored 114 for 5 from their 20 overs with Matty Greaves top scoring with an unbeaten 33 and a good innings from Leo Mercy with 24 runs. In reply, Darlington RA were restricted to 92 for 8 from their 20 overs thanks to some excellent bowling from David Robinson (3 for 4) and Matty Greaves (2 for 12).
