The Agnew Community Centre Management Committee have agreed to sponsor the formation of a Residents’ Association for the Agnews and have called a Public Meeting for Thursday 26th June at 7pm in their Centre at Morrison Close.
This follows a line of successful associations formed around the town who are finding their voice and pressing for improvements on all aspects of community life.
Syd Howarth, Chairman of Great Aycliffe Residents Association suggested this at the recent AGM where he was the guest speaker. Syd commented on the upsurge of Residents Association in recent years and encouraged Agnew to do likewise to give people living in the Agnews a forum to express their opinion on how their area can be improved.
Agnew Community Centre will be offered free to the Residents group to administer the Association and call meetings. Already people have expressed interest in serving as officers and see this as a positive move for the area. Items affecting people in the area include: parking, speeding, litter, noise, vandalism ASB etc. Play area for toddlers, youth facilities and welfare issues are other topics for debate.
Syd Howarth has agreed to Chair the meeting and Ken Robson from the successful Acorn Residents Association will explain how his association was formed and the advantages gained.
All interested parties will be invited to the Public Meeting and refreshments will be served.
Anyone requiring more information can call in at the Centre at anytime to discuss the project or e-mail the secretary Ron Mitchie to offer their support on agnewcommunitycentre@btconect.com Tel: 321504. Mobile: 07749 236853.
