On Saturday Mya Stores, a pupil at St. Mary’s primary in Newton Aycliffe , had her long hair cut into a short bob, as she wanted to do something to help children with cancer. A while ago she saw an advert on the Tv, and thought to herself, “I have long hair, I would like to help others.”. She has been growing her hair long since September last year. The hair that has been cut off is going to be used by the Little Princess Trust, a charity who makes wigs for children and young adults who sadly have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.

A few of Mya’s classmates went to the Tesco Store in Northallerton last Saturday, 11th November at 11.30 am to watch their friend having her hair cut off. Her dad, Martin cut off her hair. This store was chosen as one of her friends, Ava’s Mam, is manager there. She organised a bottle bag raffle to get extra money too. Mya had her hair in 4 bobbles before getting it cut. Mya and her 2 friends, Sophie and Ava were given a tiara to wear, making them feel like real princesses.

Already Mya and her family have raised over £1300 from private donations and from her Virgin money just giving page, and money is still coming in. She still has four weeks left to collect money. If you would like to donate, you can go to her Just Giving page:

Here are a few quotes of what Mya and her friends thought.

Mya, “I did not expect to raise so much.”

Sophie, “It is amazing to think our friend got her hair cut off for charity.”

Ava, “I am surprised how much money was raised.”

Some of the parents from the school commented.

“Well done Mya, you are an inspiration and it looks absolutely fantastic.”

“What a really kind thing to do.”

“You are a very brave and inspirational young girl Mya, well done.”
