Dear Sir,

A car behind me struck a small Dachshund on Burnhill Way last week and it was an unavoidable accident. I stopped immediately to assist the clearly shaken driver and see if anything could be done for the dog.

It turned out the dog was trapped under the car, but alive. The owner who had lost the dog 30 minutes previously down the Burn, arrived on the scene.

Some teenagers suggested we tried to lift the car and when we got it an inch or so up, the owner was able to pull her free.

I had left my car on the pavement a few yards ahead with the hazard lights on and the accident was blocking traffic so once I knew the dog was on its way to the Vets I did not stick around.. The doggie was called Gretel and Myself and another lady who was on hand to assist are really keen to find out how the dog is.

None of us got names and Gretel was a little miracle and was in fact walking ok once the owner put her down, but I saw the impact and was amazed she had survived. Is there any way Newton News could help us trace the owner so we could find out if the doggy is ok?
