As Newton Aycliffe Spartans Senior Baseball team prepare for their second season in the British Baseball Federation League, they are delighted to announce that Co-Ed Softball and Junior Baseball sessions are now available.

Co-ed slowpitch softball is a recreational, social and enjoyable game that’s easy to learn and play, even for people who are not “athletes” or don’t have much experience of team sports – and the game offers particular opportunities for both men and women to play together.

The game is like baseball in terms of the rules, but because the ball is pitched slowly to each batter it’s easy to hit the ball and succeed at the sport’s central skill. The fact that males and females play together in the same team and on an equal level gives the sport a real social buzz.

The Softball sessions will be run by Manny Dabuet, who as a qualified Softball Coach is well placed to deliver his passion, knowledge and experience, gained both in the UK and overseas into enjoyable sessions. It is hoped the Spartans can enter softball tournaments during 2013.

The softball sessions will be held outdoors, at Sunnydale Leisure Centre in Shildon and will commence on Saturday April 6th and run each Saturday from 11am – 2pm.  The cost is £5 for those aged 16 and over and £3 for under 16’s.

Junior Baseball training, for both girls and boys aged between 8 and 16, continues on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 7.30pm, at Sunnydale Leisure Centre, Shildon.  The cost is just £2 per session and will be run by qualified baseball coach, John Johnston. The Spartans hope to enter various junior tournaments in 2013 with a view to entering the British Youth Baseball League next season.
