Year 7 at Greenfield Community College have been working with creative practitioners to create imaginary and fantastical ‘mechanimals’ who are at the centre of our story makers project.
Story makers is a GAMP AAP initiative which is being managed and developed by Greenfield Arts to promote literacy and intergenerational play and create a love of literature through making stories.
The mechanimal puppets not only feature in the stories but the students have had the opportunity to take them along to local primary schools to interact with younger children bringing the generations together in learning and creative play. Children from Byerley Park and Stephenson Way Primary School were thrilled to be involved in the project and meet the ‘mechanimals’ and hear how the older students had constructed and brought them to life also using a range of creative, engineering and technical skills.
The Mechanimals were given names and personalities which will lead to an App featuring these characters and this will help promote literacy through creative play.
