The popular Meccano Magic event returns to Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon for Sunday May 28 & Monday May 29. This annual event, organised by the North East Meccano Society, features fantastic displays of models made with Meccano, the popular construction toy.

Meccano is one of the oldest construction toys in the world. It was invented in England by Frank Hornby in 1898, when he created a system of reusable metal strips, plates and wheels connected with nuts and bolts for his two sons to play with.

For more than 100 years, young and old alike have used the Meccano system for creations from simple buildings to high tech robotics programming. The Meccano Magic event at Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon will feature a wide range of static, mechanised and remote controlled Meccano models made by North East  Meccano Society members. Plus there will be a hands-on area where younger visitors can have a go at creating models using a plastic Meccano system.

Steam train rides will also be available throughout the event behind Furness Railway No. 20, the oldest standard gauge locomotive still operating in the UK. Please note that a small charge applies for train rides.

Locomotion is open daily from 10am to 5pm, with parking and admission free of charge. For more information, please call 01388 777999.
