The FA are aiming to double participation in girls football by 2020, and as part of that strategy, 200 Wildcats girls mini soccer centres, have been set up across the country. Newton Aycliffe Youth F.C. were awarded a centre covering South West Durham and their first session took place on Sunday 26 March  and it was a huge success.

The venue was Greenfield College 3G pitch on a warm and sunny morning and 27 girls aged 5 -11 years old, who had pre-registered, came along for a fun filled hour of footballing skills and games. Berni Borsberry, club secretary commented, “We were proud to be awarded the Wildcats Mini Soccer Centre and we are determined to do our part in growing girl’s football in County Durham. At the end of the 16 week programme we will be looking to move many of these girls into teams and hopefully a long involvement in girls football.”
