We regret to record the death of Joe Ewin aged 49 of Ashfield who died suddenly on  Saturday 24th November after walking a friend home safely to her home. He collapsed and despite attempts to save him, did not survive.

Joe was a well known figure on the town, always smiling and ready to help anyone.He was very interested in all sport and represented Aycliffe and Durham in sport for the disabled.

He has a cabinet full of trophies and his interests included Swimming, Football, Dominoes, Pool, Darts,  Line Dancing, Durham Wildcats and Sunderland F.C.

Joe and his mother Freda were founder members of the Wishing Well Club a facility for disabled people in Newton Aycliffe.

Joe who was recently made redundant from Remploy after 30 years, has been caring for his mother who suffered a stroke, shortly after the death of his dad, Dougie.

Joe was very popular and had many friends, who describe him as a kind loving man with a big heart. The family are touched by all the messages of sympathy received and they wish to thank all who tried to help Joe at the scene.

The Funeral is on Tuesday 4th December at 11.45am in St Mary’s Church, Newton Aycliffe with a cremation to follow at Coundon.

Refreshments served after-wards at the British Legion Club, Newton Aycliffe. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
