The Huntsman bounced back from a disappointing extra time defeat in the County Cup, with a 6-0 victory away at Darlington Rolling Mills on Sunday. Assistant Manager Ben Wood took charge of the side in the absence of Neil Dodds, recalling Shaun Sproates, Steven Williams, Anthony McDonald, John Jamie Herd and Andrew Richardson in the eleven.
Following two disappointing defeat’s against The Rolling Mills last season, the away side started brightly as the hosts struggled to get to grips with the game. The deadlock was finally broken, as Shaun Sproates beat two men out wide before his cross was dummied by Reed Molloy, allowing Mike Sproates to tap home.
It remained 1-0 until half time, although The Huntsman had plenty of chances to add to their advantage. And the half time team talk from Wood was certainly effective, as an early long ball over the top was latched onto by Reed Molloy who calmly finished.
Five minutes later, the visitors scored again as Molloy’s corner was met with a diving front post header from Mike Sproates, who steered the ball across goal into the far corner to make it 3-0.
You could have forgiven the hosts for taking it easy after that, however they “turned the screw” as the impressive substitutes Connor Halford and Anth Harrison combined well down the right hand side; enabling Harrison to finish.
Four soon became five, as following another good piece of work from the left, and Harrison curled one into the bottom corner for his 2nd goal of the game.
The scoring was rounded out when Harrison capped his man of the match performance finding Molloy who bagged his 13th League goal in 5 appearances. Anth Harrison’s two goal cameo off the bench saw him awarded man of the match.
