We had a very enjoyable and well supported night last Friday to show off our new extension and refurbishment of the Community Centre. If you were unable to attend drop in any time to see the work for yourself.
The displays by the Taekwondo Little Tigers and the Karate Little Red Dragons were a great example of just some of the many new activities we have for youngsters.
Keith Henderson (Community Centre President) introduced Mr  Brian Hall Chair of Great Aycliffe and Middridge Area Action Partnership who opened the event. A big thank you to the Gamp Board, and County Councillors Mike Dixon, John Clare, and Joan Gray for their financial support, and confidence to invest in our future.
The work has been completed to an excellent standard and all the contractors involved went out of their way to work with us to minimise disturbance. Local builders K. Harrison and his team were a pleasure to work with, as was Lee Crowther of ITS. (electrics).
For many years the Acoustics in the main hall have been dreadful this is no longer, so thanks to Ikoustic ltd, for great service and advice.
The refurbishment of the main hall floor by the Wood Floor Company of Darlington is fantastic and most people think we have a new floor.
We appreciate the many groups who came to support us, together with community partners. So many came I will not try to list everyone in case I leave someone out, but you all know who you are.
Our night concluded with a spirited rendition of Country and Western classics by our own MAD Community Choir (Every Wed 6-30pm).The performance in suitable costumes galloped along (aided by Adrian the Horse) and most people seemed to know all the words. They have a Concert on the 7th Oct at the Xcel Centre in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research. Tickets available from the Community Centre.
Our Committee thanks everyone for their support  past, present and future. Please remember how important it is to support local community activities and centres, Use them or lose them!
Remember the Newton News Website is available free to groups to help publicise your events and is a great one stop place to check out the many things going on in Aycliffe. We are preparing our activities list for the next few months and will be publishing it next week.
