Dear Sir,

I would like to thank Honest John for his amazing donation of £1,500 to St Clare’s Church roof appeal.

St Clare’s and its assorted buildings are now of an age when several roofs, especially the flat ones, need renewing. We need to raise over £25,000, some urgently and some over the next 4 to 5 years, to ensure that our buildings are in a fit state to carry on the work we do.

Honest John’s kind donation isn’t just to St Clare’s church, but to the very wide community that use the church and all its facilities.  As well as the weekly services of Worship, Weddings, Baptisms, Messy Church, Funerals and Memorial Services, plus visits by school children for their religious studies, the church plays host to meetings of Brownies, Girl Guides, Mother’s Union, Women’s Fellowship, Men’s Fellowship, Slimming groups, Social Club, film shows for young and old, Sedgefield Residents group, youth groups including “Shine Choir” and the Marie Clare Choir.

St Clare’s is also home to the Newton Aycliffe branch of “Foodbank” which is working so hard for people in need. It provides a venue for stage shows and gave a home to both the local boxing club and MIND when needed.

So many people have reason to be grateful to Honest John, not just for the help he has given to St Clare’s on this occasion but for all that he does for so many charities and groups in need. Thank you Honest John, on behalf of St Clare’s and the community you serve so wonderfully,
