Deerness Valley U13’s 0 v Heighington U13’s 1
Heighington made it back to back clean sheets this week with a hard fought win against a physical Deerness side. In a first half where chances at either end were at a premium, it was Heighington who had the best opportunity to score when striker Ted Brain was brought down inside the box; unfortunately Heighington were unable to convert and the game remained goalless at the break.
Half Time: Deerness Valley 0 – Heighington 0.
During the break, coaches Mike and Jamie reinforced the values that have brought success to the team; a raft of changes brought renewed energy and the passing became crisper and more accurate. Heighington were on the front foot from the resumption of play but were unable to turn their possession into clear openings. This changed ten minutes from time when a superb cross on the right from Will Barker found Josh Drought who acrobatically hooked a fine finish into the far corner of the goal past the despairing dive of the Deerness keeper. Heighington then attempted to see the game out but were indebted to keeper Harry Irvine who dived low to keep out a last minute equaliser. The final whistle was met with much relief from the watching parents.
MOTM: This was a game where both defences were on top. The Heighington defence was superb throughout; marshalled expertly by skipper Olly Watson but man of the match has to go to Josh Drought who made it 2 goals in two games from his wing back berth. Not only did Josh score a fantastic winner but he displayed excellent work rate and commitment, both in attack and defence, throughout the game.
Heighington U11 1 v Washington U11 Blues 0
A top of the table clash today as 2 fantastic sides lock horns in a very tight and tense match played in the morning sunshine. The first half ended in stalemate as both sides cancelled each other out. Heighington created chances with some lovely passing but we just couldn’t seem to find the run of the park. Washington threatened on a number of occasions but our defence held firm for the 2nd game in a row.
The second half was played on a knife edge with clear cut chances being few and far between for both sides – despite both sides putting in the work all over the pitch. The breakthrough came with 13 minutes left on the clock when Bruno Clack found himself on the edge of the box with a sea of defenders in front of him. Bruno got a brief sight of goal and struck a delightful shot which just about sailed over the opposition keeper and into the net. Advantage Heighington ….. just. The remaining minutes were played much the same as the rest of the game, with nothing between the two sides and much hard work on display
MOTM: Bruno Clack, great vision and technique for his goal. He was a threat all morning with his blistering pace too. Fast becoming known as, ‘the ice man’ as he’s so ruthless in front of goal.
MOTM: Jonah Wade, gave everything for his team today – as always. Some important tackles, relentless work rate and won the majority of his battles in midfield.
