Heighington AFC u11s RFYL
Heighington AFC 7 v Washington FC Pumas 4
The mighty red and blacks brought their season to a close at home in an amazing match. The lads have had a quality season despite all the drama with Covid. Finishing 3rd in the league, they have put in some absolutely stunning performances. They battled hard when needed and never gave up in any match.
They went into their final match knowing they needed 5 goals to get to 100 for the season. The first half didn’t quite go to plan with Washington proving stubborn opposition and creating lots of chances. Huge respect to the Heighington lads though, even when Washington took the lead, the lads were quick to score the equaliser.
Second half Heighington stepped things up and were stronger in defence and also extremely clinical in attack. Both teams could have scored more goals had it not been for the keepers. Heighingtons keeper, H, pulled off several crucial saves to prevent Washington adding to their 4 goals.
Our defence were pushed hard and tested a lot throughout the whole match. The timing of challenges and dogged determination, to stop the attacks, was brilliant to watch. Bear, Watson, Yaley and Benji all stood strong when called upon.
Midfield chased down every loose ball and ran their socks off to win the ball back and start our attacks. They constantly tried to play our passing game and through balls to the attackers. They have all grown this season, showing a great understanding and closeness. On the right wing Chappers was a constant threat with his menacing runs, adding another goal to his excellent season. Luca down the middle, dominating the opposition and playing some excellent passes throughout. Rainey down the left, scoring a worldy after taking on nearly the whole Washington team and calmly shooting the ball past the keeper. Hill coming on and helping protect the defence with a few very important challenges.
Our two strikers for the day were on fire, not giving Washington’s defence any time on the ball and chased down everything. OZZ continued his own good form with a tidy finish past an onrushing keeper. Belly, 4 goals and 2 assists. He was desperate to get his first hat trick for the team since joining after lockdown.
Goals scored by Jack x4, Chappers x1, Oscar x1, Cole x1.
MOM, Big H, Heighingtons super keeper. From his pin point distribution to his commanding presence in the box. He made 6, one Vs one saves and a couple of goal line stops. Brilliant performance.
Big shout out to our sponsors, South Durham Structures, a Bishop Auckland company, that have been fabricating and erecting Structural Steelwork since 1981.
Heighington AFC U11s Whites
Heighington Whites 5 v Leven Juniors 1
Heighington Whites U11s finishing off the season with a double header against Leven Juniors home and away. The lads started really well, pushing high up and playing a high defence too. It paid off early with Daniel Bennett-Scott rounding the keeper to put us 1-0. Then came Leven winning a penalty which was brilliantly saved by young Theo Denton. Daniel had another effort cleared off the line before Leven pulled back level just before half time. Second half the Whites quickly raced into the lead again, this time after a Chris Abrams corner being headed onto the bar by Cruz Denton for Finley Stocks to put it into the net for his first club goal. 3-1 wasn’t far behind the second goal as Daniel, once again, finding time in the box to slot an easy goal home. Nathan McKenna made it 4-1, 10 minutes from time, with a classy run down the right and a cool finish past the keeper. Daniel completed his 1st hat trick of the season to round off a great game for the Whites.
MOM went to Theo Denton for his fantastic saves and Daniel Bennett-Scott for his great attitude and goals today. Whole team played fantastic and well done lads on the great defensive work, solid all game against against a good passing side.
