RCA U11’s 0 – Heighington FC U11’s 7
The new look Heighington u11’s got off to a fairytale start to life in their new division, against a very good Sunderland side. However, the first half was a tight and nervy affair but a good half time talk seemed to settle our boys and the second half was the best I’ve ever seen from my Heighington team. I am extremely proud of this performance, they pressed the ball relentlessly and broke with intent during every attack and looked like they could score at any moment. Defensively we settled into this game, we rode the storms early on and the lads at the back took home a clean sheet they can be proud of and worked hard for. Exceptional 2nd half from every member of our squad today and it was great they all played with right attitude and focus. To go away in a new division on the first game of the season and put on a performance like this says everything about the attitude and approach of the boys. They all deserve to be singled out and mentioned but MOTM went to Will Farrow for his unbelievable work ethic, he couldn’t have won any more tackles or headers and 2 goals to boot (one of which was a spectacular lob from just inside his own half).
Goals: Will Farrow 2, Jack Collingwood 2, Bruno Clack, James Henderson and Tyler Keyes.
Escomb Warriors 0 – Heighington U13’s 7
Heighington kicked off their league campaign away to newly promoted Escomb on a bright Saturday morning. Both teams sported black armbands for this fixture and observed the minutes silence with true respect.
Heighington have been showing great form in preseason and ultimately proved too strong for a plucky Escomb side who battled gamely throughout.
New signing Nic C opened the scoring with Ted rediscovering his scoring form with a goal just before Nic added a cracking third with a powerful shot before half time.
After the break it was all Heighington with countless opportunities being created by the impressive midfield duo of Jack B and Jude. Further goals followed from Lennon, Will M and Jude before Ted rounded off a great individual display by scoring his second of the game.
Coaches MOTM: This was a very difficult decision as everyone was superb and contributed to an outstanding team performance but both coaches agreed the honour should be shared between Ted and Jack. Ted was a real handful throughout for the Escomb defence and deserved his two goals whilst Jack dropped to a deeper midfield role in the second half and bossed the game from there.
A very pleasing opening game with everyone optimistic about the team’s prospect this year.
