Newton Aycliffe Youth Seniors 5
v Wynyard Village 2
The progression of the male pathway at Newton Aycliffe Youth FC continued as the seniors made their debut in the Wearside League 2, in front of over 80 supporters from the club and the town. Players from our younger boys and girls’ teams were mascots for the day and did the walk on with the players. The support was hugely appreciated by the management and players. A full squad of 18 players were available and some difficult choices were made, with everyone fighting to be in the starting level
The first half didn’t go as planned, despite taking the lead when Reed Molloy beat three players and finished well. However, the Wynyard Striker beat the offside and slotted the equaliser. Then GK Adam Scott kept the game level with a great save to get to the break all square. Early in the 2nd half, a mistake at the back let Wynyard take the lead but this was probably what the game needed as the Seniors upped their game. Leading the way, Jack Mortimer went close when he beat 5 players and smashed against the bar. However, we brought the game back level when Ryan Peart was brilliant down the left and found Jack at the back post to tap home. Mason Steed entered the pitch and soon started to pull the strings in the centre of midfield, with his extra pace. A nice passing move found Mason who fired home into the bottom corner to take the lead. Aycliffe now started to control the game and Jack went past 2 defenders to add the 4th. Reed went close to adding a 5th before Jack was fouled in the box, to win a penalty, which he converted for his hat trick and secure an emphatic victory.
MOM: Josh Bayne. All 18 members of the match day squad got time on the pitch, so a great day all round for our debut at this level.
