As Father Michael Campion prpepares to leave Newton Aycliffe to take up a new post we reflect with gratitude on his contribution to the community.
Fr. Michael made a real impact on the parish and was not afraid to strike out against injustice or neglect of duty. He was Vice Chairman of the Great Aycliffe Residents’s Association and supported its campaigns vigorously. He was instrumental in its formation and allowed church premises to be used for committee and public meetings.
A man of great intellect, deep thought and compassion he will be remembered fondly by all those who he knew and his departure leaves a huge gap in our midst.
We know Fr. Michael did not want to leave, but he was bound by his calling and obedience to the Bishop.
On behalf of the community he served so well we thank him for his valuable contribution to Great Aycliffe and wish him every success and happiness in his new position.
