The town centre owners have confirmed that following the successful three phases of the award winning redevelopment in the town centre including refurbishment of almost all of the public realm, they will be continue with further changes in the new year.
1. The demolition of Churchill House and associated shops will start March 2015 with further improvements being provided by Durham County Council within the Leisure Centre.
2. They are currently refurbishing the former HSBC Bank for retail use.
3. Flats situated directly above the former HSBC on Dalton Way are also in process of being fully redecorated including new kitchens, bathroom suites and carpets to allow them to be brought back into residential use.
4. The former Woolworths, Boola and G8vibes are being combined as one large retail unit for a potential let, currently in discussion.
5. The former Your More Store at 10-14 Beveridge Way is in process of being tendered to provide a new larger more attractive retail space.
All of these works are building on the British Council of Shopping Centres Gold Award jury’s comments that Newton Aycliffe has been an amazing small centre transformation fully supported by our local MP Phil Wilson, Durham County Council and Great Aycliffe Town Council.
