A very grateful new mum was so delighted with the care she received from the maternity team at University Hospital of North Durham when she gave birth to her daughter earlier this year, that she’s raised almost £600 for the ward.

Stephanie Mathews, whose daughter, Faelene, was born by caesarean section on 27th February, said, “The care I received from every member of the team was faultless. The surgeon, nurses and the whole ward team were outstanding and I wanted to do something to acknowledge that and to thank them for caring for us so well.

“I run Polka School of Dance in Durham and each year we do a sponsored walk for charity. This year, we decided that the money raised by the children and their families would be donated to the maternity ward at University Hospital of North Durham for them to use to benefit ladies having their babies there.”

Maternity matron at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, Linda Ibbetson, said, “We’re delighted that Stephanie and her daughter are doing well and had such a positive experience in our care. We’re very grateful for their kind and generous donation.
