Road resurfacing work is to take place on the A68 through County Durham. The County Council is to carry out the work on the road at Fir Tree, near Crook, over five days.

The resurfacing will be carried out on the stretch between Redmires Farm and York House from Tuesday 19 to Monday 25 September.

On Thursday 21, Friday 22 and Monday 25 September the works will take place between 7pm and 6am. The road will be open with traffic controlled by temporary lights on Thursday 21 September but closed on Friday 22 and Monday 25 September.

Diversions will be in place while the road is closed via the A689 and A688 with signs to inform drivers.

John Reed, the council’s head of technical services, said: “This resurfacing is part of our ongoing programme to maintain our county’s roads for the benefit of all who use them.

“We appreciate there will be some disruption for motorists but we have planned the work to keep this to a minimum, with three of the five days only involving overnight activity.

“We do very much appreciate the patience and understanding shown by motorists for all the work we do.”
