Woodham Academy students are enjoying the return of extra-curricular clubs and school sports fixtures. This year has seen the growth of girls’ football at Woodham, with a number of training sessions, 5 a side tournaments and County Cup fixtures.
Most recently, the U13’s team, which is made up of students from Year 7 and 8, hosted St Joseph’s Catholic Academy from Hebburn in the Durham County Cup and were unlucky to lose in a well contested game.
The football interest has spiked at Woodham since the girls covered football in their PE lessons earlier in the year and it’s great to see this enthusiasm transferred into representing the school.
Over the next few years Woodham hope to see participation grow in girls’ football, so that they can field teams at all age groups and continue to build on the growing variety of opportunities available to students.
