A local County Durham fostering agency took advantage of the Dancing on Ice phenomena by treating its foster carers and young people to an ice skating experience at Billingham Forum. Core Assets Fostering North East organise a variety of activities for looked after children and birth children of foster carers during the school holidays and this half term was no different with ice skating being top of the young people’s wish list. Foster Carer, Margaret Newby took her eldest son, Robert, 9, and the young person she is fostering along for their first activity event: “It was a fantastic day and it was lovely to meet all the other foster carers and see the young people enjoying themselves.

These activities really help new carers like me to get to know other foster carers.” Robert said: “It was my first time on the ice but I really enjoyed it and by the end I was able to skate around on my own. It was nice to make some new friends and I will definitely be going to the ice rink again.”
