There was a buzz of excitement in the air as 20 giant balls were inflated on the football field at Woodham Academy on Wednesday 16th July. Before the school day started, students looked on with a mixture of trepidation and excitement at the prospect of putting the balls over their heads and trying to play football.
Each year, the three houses within Woodham – Raby, Brancepeth and Lambton, compete to win the coveted Bulman trophy and the chance to be invited to a final rewards day. This year, the prize was to play bubble football and a fancy dress photo booth with Lampton scooping the prize with the most achievement points earned over the year. All students from the winning house with outstanding to good effort and behaviour grades throughout the year were invited as well as any student with 100% attendance record and the top academic achievers from the other two houses.
Each year group played each other with some far too over enthusiastic members of staff also getting involved. There was a staff match at lunchtime which resulted in the only injury of the day – of course, a member of staff! Most of the school turned out to watch this and there were some side splitting laughs throughout the day as both students and teachers took epic forward rolls, tumbles and flips.
Congratulations and a huge well done to everyone who was rewarded on Wednesday and to everyone who took part in the competitions over the year. The only question now is who will be victorious next year!?
