Scarlet Whitaker Dunn competed in her first race for 4 years this weekend at Teesside Motorsport Track.
Driving a much faster Honda 200cc Cadet Kart alongside 25 drivers with many years experience in the category. This was a whole new learning curve for Scarlet. With an average lap of over 45mph around the 2.1km track and reaching a top speed of 60mhp Scarlet was within 2 seconds a lap away from the winner.
Saturday – It poured down all day for practice and we were all soaked to the bone. Needless to say we (Scarlet, myself and Grandad) all still enjoyed ourselves!
Sunday – We expected a tough day physically for Scarlet with a warm up session, 3 heats and a final. Every session changes had to be made to the kart, 12kg of lead weight to be added, wets and slick tyres to be used and different set ups which Scarlet managed to adapt to quickly gaining her further confidence for future races.
Scarlet’s younger brother Harrison enjoyed his time on Sunday helping out with the kart (changing wheels) and making new friends from other teams.
“I’m so proud of both Scarlet and Harrison. Scarlet drove so well, dealing with all the changes and Harrison was willing to learn and showed tremendous support for Scarlet,” said Mam.
“Being back out in a race again felt amazing, the competition was extremely high and challenging too but I still had an incredible time,” said Scarlet.
We would like to thank Amaron Racing, PHM (Peninsula Historic Motorsport) and Rob Storey for their generous assistance and financial support, making this possible.
