Woodham Academy takes careers education, information advice and guidance very seriously and has a varied programme of careers-related events in place throughout the school year. In the week beginning 9th July Year 10 students at Woodham Academy took part in an enrichment week designed to support their understanding of career progression. The week saw students visiting further education and sixth form providers and experiencing taster sessions.

“This week forms an integral part of our guidance programme” said Mr Walker, Careers Coordinator ‘and is an excellent opportunity for students to start to explore what is out there for them when they leave school.

Those students who are studying for a GCSE in Engineering participated in a work placement with companies in the engineering and manufacturing industries.

“This was a real opportunity to see what a career in the engineering/manufacturing industry is really like” said Andrew Blair who worked at Lucite International Speciality Polymers and Resins for the week.

He worked between the maintenance and the technical engineering departments learning about different aspects of the company.

“I enjoyed the mechanical maintenance the most and I am definitely looking down the apprenticeship route when I leave secondary education”.

Engineering results at the school were outstanding this year with most students exceeding their targets in the exam component of the qualification.
