Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store recorded their sixth victory out of the last seven games played as they impressively defeated Northallerton 1st team at home by 86 runs in the NYSD 2nd division. After being asked to bat first Aycliffe scored a very challenging 221 for 7 in their allotted 50 overs. Michael Howe (sponsored by Yvonne and Bob Wood) top scored with 47 and there were other notable contributions from captain Sam Telford (43 runs), George Slatcher (32 runs) and Adam Gittins with 27 runs. In reply the visitors were bowled out for 135 after 46 overs with Patrick Howe the pick of the bowlers taking 4 for 36 and he was supported well by his older brother Michael (2 for 26) and James Layfield-Carroll (2 for 32). Special mention must also go to opening bowler Jack Slatcher who also chipped in with a wicket during the visitor’s innings, taking him to a very notable landmark of fifty first team wickets this season.
Newton Aycliffe’s 2nd team had a comfortable five wicket away victory to complete a league double against Maltby 2nds in the NYSD 4th division. The home team were asked to bat first and found Aycliffe slow bowler Lewis Gimple (sponsored by Beaumont Ground Maintenance) in inspired form taking a career best eight wickets for just seven runs from 9.4 overs and with Dan Weldon chipping in with 1 for 9 from 7 overs, Maltby were skittled for just 43 after 19.4 overs. In reply Aycliffe reversed their batting order and still fairly easily knocked off the required runs for the loss of five wickets after just 11.5 overs thanks to Jak Kennedy (10 not out) and Dan Craggs (10 runs).
