Once again the horrendous unseasonal weather had a massive impact on the Club’s cricket fixtures at the weekend with the 2nd team game at home to Sedgefield 2nd XI totally washed out as the ground was badly flooded with large parts of the playing field under water.

The u11’s, u13’s and u15’s also saw their respective games cancelled because of the weather.

However, Newton Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store at least got a start away at Barnard Castle in the NYSD 2nd division. The home side were asked to bat first and managed to score 176 for 9 after 45.2 overs before the rain once again intervened. George Slatcher (sponsored by Dean and Tina Greaves) was the pick of the Aycliffe bowlers taking a superb career best 5 for 58 and he was supported well by older brother Jack (2 for 35) and Patrick Howe (2 for 31). The persistent rain forced the umpires to eventually abandon the match just after 5.30pm with the result being recorded as a draw.

The u17’s managed to play their home game against Stockton in the NYSD junior league but were well beaten by 59 runs. Stockton chose to bat first and scored 120 for 2 in their 20 overs with David Robison taking 1 for 19 from his four overs. In reply Aycliffe were bowled out for 61 after 17 overs with only Leo Mercy and Harry Wright, who both scored ten runs, reaching double figures.
