Aycliffe Cricket Club’s 1st team, sponsored by Franks the Flooring Store turned the form book upside down when they completely demolished 2nd in the table Shildon 1st XI by nine wickets in the NYSD 2nd division.
Shildon won the toss and bat first and were blown away by the visitors opening bowlers Mark Woodhead (sponsored by Michaela’s Nails), who finished with the outstanding figures of 7 for 21 and Jack Slatcher, who finished with 3 for 10 as the home side were skittled for just 32 after 20.1 overs. In reply, Michael Howe (18 not out) and Sam Telford (11 not out) raced Aycliffe to victory after just 5 overs.
The second team snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with an amazing 3 run victory at home to Yarm 2nd XI in the NYSD 3rd division. Electing to bat first Aycliffe played well to score 166 all out after 48.2 overs. Tony Travis top scored with a seasons best 47 and other notable contributions came from Joe Teasdale (28 runs) and Dylan Tribley and Stephen Sweeney, who both scored 23 runs.
Yarm batted steadily throughout their innings and looked to be heading for a win when they needed just 19 runs with four wickets and ten overs in hand. However the reintroduction of both Stephen Sweeney (4-19) and Ryan Patrick (3 for 17) back into the Aycliffe attack had the desired effect as Yarm panicked and lost their last 4 wickets for just 15 runs in a dramatic finale and with the help of a brilliant catch by Dylan Tribley to remove their last man, Aycliffe ran out victorious by just 3 runs after 45.3 overs.
An under strength u17’s side produced a very good performance at home to Seaton Carew u17’s but still lost by 24 runs in the NYSD junior league. The visitors batted first and scored 125 for 3 from their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Dylan Tribley smashed a superb career best 50 not out off 47 balls, including nine boundaries to give Aycliffe an excellent start. Acting captain Daniel Bowmer and Jack lowery also both batted well scoring 15 and 13 respectively, but Aycliffe fell just short as they finished their innings on a respectable 101 for 7 from 20 overs.
The u11’s put in another excellent performance, but were eventually beaten at home to Seaton Carew by 31 runs. Daniel Heaton was the pick of the Aycliffe bowlers taking 3 wickets for 16 runs and Matty Greaves and Jack Paylor both picked up a couple of wickets each.
