Last week, Aycliffe County Councillors visited the Aycliffe and District Bus Preservation Society.  The visit was partly to mark a donation they had given the society to help restore ‘The Old Darling’ – a 1940 double-decker converted in 1956 to a tow truck, which became United longest-serving vehicle.
However, the visit was much more about supporting and publicising the Society, Aycliffe’s only accredited museum and truly one of the town’s success stories.
Councillor Eddy Adam commented: “The Society is doing some fantastic work maintaining the local bus heritage, with volunteers using their skill and knowledge to restore the buses back to their original status, but they need support from the community to ensure their work is maintained.”
