Dear Sir,
I have been reading with great interest the conflict between the management of the Scout Hall telling the scouts to vacate the building – so as an ex-member of the steering committee of the Newton Aycliffe Scout Supporters Association I would like to explain the full story.
We were a group of parents holding our regular meeting in the church hall and one of our items on the agenda was to try and get our own premises, hence the beginning of long and hard work, together with the help of the town residents we achieved our aim and the Scout Hall was opened on 5th May 1979 for the purpose of cubs, scouts and venture scouts.
A lot of fundraising and years of happy activities were carried out to make this possible. Unfortunately, I only wish I could have carried on, but being in my 90s, I am hoping the hard work will revert to the hall being used as it was intended and hoping all ex-members will continue to the fight for all scouts continue having their building back.
Please help Save our Scouts.
