Dear Sir,

We have, in the past, complained to the local police and requested to have the speed reduced on Pease Way in particular. There are other areas on the town that could also be targeted, but I am interested in the road from the “railway station” to the junction on Stephenson Way, a distance of about 2/3rds of a mile,

It is not only the speeding, it is about the horrendous noise from some of the motor bikes with aftermarket exhausts which sound like formula 1 racing cars. It is also the poorly maintained vehicles with broken exhausts.

I spoke to the police some time ago about this issue, but again nothing is being done. We cannot have our windows open at home, as the noise is so bad. I have also approached the council about installing chicanes, which would help to calm down the road.

It has been proven in Bishop Auckland on the housing estates, I had a chance to go to Bishop Auckland on the bus to investigate recently and this method does slow down the traffic considerably.

I am not a lover of speed bumps, but chicanes do work – another issue is the gasses from the ‘souped-up’ cars and bikes.

Could I request readers to make representations to the police to help get this issue resolved.
