Ruth Mack – Activities Coordinator for Aycliffe Care Home, had 13cm of her hair cut off on 16th October 2018 to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer research and also she donated her hair to the Princess Trust who make wigs from the donated hair to help those suffering from hair loss whether it be from cancer or other illnesses that cause hair loss.
The reason she did this was because (these are Ruth’s words ) “At the beginning of the year my family was hit with the worse news ever. My father was diagnosed with terminal cancer to his liver, bowel and small intestines. My dad lived a healthy and happy life until this diagnosis. The Macmillan nurses, doctors, surgeons and many other professionals have helped not only my dad but our family deal with this terrible news”
She has raised a total of £410 so far but donations are still coming in. The residents were all witness to the big chop and seemed to get great enjoyment from watching her part with her beloved long hair and a local hairdresser offered to do this for free in aid of the charity.
